The Schmetz - Microtex (1730) 80/12 needles are all-purpose needles that can be used for piecing, quilting, or simple mends and general sewing. In this way, they can save you a lot of time when it comes to choosing the best needle type for your project.
While most all-purpose needles have rounded points that separate and slide between yarns of the fabric, Schmetz - Microtex (1730) 80/12 needles are sharp and will, therefore, cut through the yarns of the fabric. For this reason, you should be careful as you use them to avoid damaging your fabrics.
The Schmetz - Microtex (1730) 80/12 needles use the 130/705 H-M system, which is compatible with most home sewing machines, including Brother, Baby Lock, Bernette, Bernina, Elna, EuroPro, Husqvarna/Viking, Janome, Juki, Kenmore, Necchi, New Home, Pfaff, Simplicity, Singer, and White.
Each card contains 5 needles.
- Shaft: It also comes with a thin shaft, which makes perfect straight stitches. This makes it a great option if you are looking for precision stitching.
- Shank: The needles come with flat shanks, which makes them fit more easily into your machine, ensuring the perfect stitch every time. This reduces the risk of breakage while also giving you an easier time as you replace or try to fit them into your machine for the first time.
- Scarf: The H in the 130/705 H-M system indicates that they have a scarf. This allows for the efficient grabbing of the thread by the bobbin hook on your machine. This ensures that a perfect stitch is achieved every time you sew, minimizing instances of skipped stitches.
- Tip: The sharp point is great for creating beautiful topstitching, edge stitching, and perfectly formed straight stitches for quilt piecing on medium-sized fabric.
You can use any thread that works for other microtex needles. The Schmetz - Microtex (1730) 80/12 needles can also handle slightly thicker threads. This includes threads like 50- weight cotton, light upholstery, and even quilting cotton.
Because you can use it to work on slightly thicker threads, they can also handle medium weight fabrics. This makes them great for densely woven fabric, silk, thin vinyl, and appliques. Whenever possible, go for fabrics that are similar to the recommended threads.
The Schmetz – Microtex (1730) 80/12 needles are color coded for easier identification. The upper band indicates the needle type Microtex (Purple) while the lower color band indicates the needle size 80/12 (Orange).
